The Techno India Group founded Techno India University (TIU) in Kolkata in 2002. It is a private institution Situated in Kolkata's Bidhannagar Salt Lake Sector 5. The college has affiliations with WBUT (West Bengal University of Technology), is approved by AICTE, New Delhi, and holds NBA accreditation. The university wants to achieve distinction in higher education by facilitating and promoting studies, research, innovation, technology, incubation, and extension activities in the various fields of study.

University provides , graduate, and doctoral programs in engineering, commerce, science, management, humanities, and law. The majority of UG and PG admissions are determined by the university's Techno Joint Entrance Exam (TNJEE). However, the institution also accepts results from state and national exams, such as the GATE test for ME/MTech courses, the JEE Main exam, WBJEE for BE/BTech courses, NATA for B.Arch, and WBJEE ANM & GNM exam for GNM courses. UGC NET/GATE exam results are used to determine admission to Ph.D. programs. The candidate's academic standing determines whether they are admitted to the remaining courses.
